Committee On Captive Wildlife And Alternative Livestock

The purposes of the Committee on Captive Wildlife & Alternative Livestock are:

To represent the interests of captive wildlife and alternative livestock as it relates to the health of the livestock industry;
To provide the information and expertise to USAHA which can be used to make appropriate decisions regarding the health of domestic livestock that also consider the needs of captive wildlife in zoological institutions, related captive and alternative livestock industries and the conservation and breeding of endangered species;
To assist in the development of sound policies governing the dispersal and movement intra and interstate of captive wildlife and alternative livestock;
To present appropriate information to assist in the development of sound governmental policies concerning captive wildlife and alternative livestock by providing recommendations based on scientifically valid principles and methods;
To provide information and assist in the development of sound policies governing the importation/exportation of captive wildlife and alternative livestock, their germ plasm and other biomaterials directed toward the propagation of wildlife and the conservation of the earth's biodiversity;
To assist in the identification and management of disease and welfare problems affecting captive wildlife and alternative livestock;
To encourage and support research and development of biotechnology aimed at the health maintenance, well-being and conservation of captive and alternative livestock; and
To assist in the dissemination of information pertinent to captive wildlife and alternative livestock to zoological institutions and the related captive and alternative livestock industries.
