Committee On Salmonella

The purpose of the Committee on Salmonella is to:

  • Provide a forum for representatives of livestock, poultry and allied industries, universities, as well as state and federal animal health and public health agencies to interact on scientific and regulatory issues related to the diagnosis, prevention and control of Salmonella in food-producing animals and humans
  • Provide a forum for open discussion and presentation of quorum-based resolutions for consideration to the USAHA executive committee
  • Share research findings and educational information that will lead to improved methods for the diagnosis, prevention and control of Salmonella in food-producing animals and humans in the farm-to-table continuum
  • Promote the development of science-based regulatory and voluntary Salmonella programs through the cooperative efforts of animal and allied industries, universities and state and federal agencies (e.g. National Poultry Improvement Plan)
  • Support state and federal agency, university, livestock, poultry and allied industry efforts that contribute to improved on-farm reduction and control of Salmonella
  • Facilitate collaboration between state and federal animal health and public health agencies and universities in developing new educational, laboratory and epidemiological approaches to Salmonella in food-producing animals and humans
  • Promote increased state, federal and industry funding for research in the prevention, diagnosis, and control of Salmonella infections in livestock and poultry
